10 Perks Of Having Type 1 Diabetes
With having diabetes, it’s likely that we sometimes focus on the negatives and all the difficulties that we face. We sometimes forget how diabetes can make us laugh, and how it’s caused us to grow as human beings. By looking past the disadvantages, then we can focus on the 10 good perks of having type 1 diabetes.
1. Having an excuse to eat when our sugar is low.
The perfect excuse to eat everything in sight. Desperate times call for desperate measures! The best part is we don’t have to feel guilty about it.
2. Getting special treatment.
We probably don’t like to admit it - but who doesn’t like being catered to on occasion?! A helping hand makes a world of difference.
3. Excused for our craziness.
Our mood swings, forgetfulness, and crazy moments all get free passes. Am I right?!
4. Deciding on where to eat.
We always have the say on where to eat. Always. When it comes to food, we pretty much have it covered!
5. Using the diabetes card.
Having the ability to get out of doing something. Whether it be having to drive, attending a gathering, doing a chore - what have you…”but.. my blood sugar” (is fool-proof). Only when applicable, of course.
6. Entitled to breaks.
We are entitled to breaks for blood sugar checks and to eat a snack. No questions asked!
7. We come fully loaded.
We’re like a walking concession stand. Snacks… juice… MORE SNACKS - you name it. (cracker crumbs are everywhere!)
8. There are things made especially for us.
Such as diabetic clothing, shoes, and medical alert jewelry. There is even medical awareness car decals!
9. Makes us stronger.
We endure more challenges than most and we continue to rise above it all. This disease makes us appreciate life more, with knowing how hard we work every day.
10. Part of a great community.
The community of diabetics that we are a part of consist of strong, passionate, and inspirational people. We show each other support and help each other along our journey. We are our own unique group, which makes us special.
